Strange Tales From an American Studio

A 100-song anthology inspired by classical strange tales and Chinese novels: ghosts, appetite, bureaucracy, desire, transformation, and unstable identity reframed through Laoda's anarchic hip-hop language. New song every Tuesday on Manifold.

The Small-Town Test Taker

The tenth song from Liaozhai Cyber closes the first tranche — strange tales resume in two weeks. Ye Sheng dies of overwork chasing examination success and returns as a ghost, not knowing he has died. Laoda trades Pu Songling's satire of the examination system for a bleak gut punch: the small-town test taker as collective trauma.

About the Anthology

聊斋赛博 draws from classical Chinese literature — ghosts, desire, bureaucratic corruption, transformation, and unstable identity — and reframes those themes as anarchic hip-hop with generative visuals. Each song is released CC0: free to mint, remix, sample, and distribute.

The anthology releases on Manifold on Ethereum — one new song every Tuesday, 100 songs total.
